This is a moving stack. It is not true about calling the city Frisco though. Both my parents were born and raised in sf as well as my maternal grandparents born in sf and Oakland and raised in sf. I too was born there and still have lots of family there. We and many other native San Franciscans have mostly called it “the city” but also use “Frisco” from time to time. I’ve never heard natives say not to call it Frisco or they don’t like it except online.
Happy Sabbath! Naomi, on this day I try to write meaningful words to others. I am glad that you were happy coming back to Cali. I came to Southern Cali in 1981 and have not left. Seems to me . . .you needed a change! I have a little square wood sign in my "throne room." It says, "Start Something New." Sadly, I had to give up longer hair because of a medical condition. So now I have very short hair with white hair and dark ends (from previous dyeing.) HA! I am now receiving compliments. Your details about the horrors that are going on are very eye-opening. They do not include 5G being a bio-weopon in Fauci's Ouchies and cell phones. In research you might also find that Christianity is a FAKE Bible religion developed by The Vatican from pagan roots in The Third Century A.D. The TRUE Bible faith is Hebraic NOT Babylonian, Greek, and Roman! Yahshua The Messiah The Only Son Of Yahweh The Creator of EVERYTHING! came to SAVE US ALL, John 3:16. Trump may be the U.S. president (of the two-horned beast) to sign an Executive Order (not needing Congress' approval!) enforcing "The Mark of the Beast: CHRISTIANITY!" in Revelation 13:18. This verse states that the wise will understand. We can always PRAY for more knowledge. 🙏

Thank you for your persistence and strength of character that carried you through the toughest times! Carry on brave warrior, you are not finished with your task to explore, expose and conquer!
What beautiful writing! I am from California myself, though Southern California, but I too understand and miss the comfort of home that is California. There is a playfulness. There is such natural beauty. All we have to do is appreciate the beauty and find peace, it seems.
Yes, Naomi, thank you for your hard work. It is a strange and hard time. Who would ever think America (or the world) would argue whether or not a man could be in a boxing ring with a woman? Or any of the myriad concerns of which you write? I can remember when the main difference between Democrat and Republican was a matter of funding. They both believed in the same freedom and kindness, but they differed on public dollars or private dollars. I don't recognize this present world.
Thank you for giving us reporting that we can trust.
So glad I read this!! You described the unique beauty of that Northern California area so perfectly! I'm tucking this essay away for when I badly need a vacation but am unable to get away. Just rereading it will make me feel as though I have! So thank you!!🥰
That is one of the most profoundly powerfully primal, beautifully tragic, existential essays I've ever read.
It belongs among the work of deeply thoughtful existential American minds like Whitmam, Emerson, Thoreau, and Sylvia Plath, whose non-poetic musings are every bit as incredible as her stunning verse.
This was surely evil. Why is it textbook capitalism? Was it better under Chairman Mao during the Cultural Revolution? Or the starving masses under Stalin? So many attacks on capitalism are made that I don't understand. Limited government under capitalism would mean the government wouldn't take away our Constitutional rights. It's the expansion of government into a more socialist system that has given our government so much money and so much power.
I disagree, but I don't criticize. Please explain. I'd like to understand your view.
Thank you so much for this amazing story. The memories of my own small-town Midwest childhood experiences came flooding back. We had a river, pretty, but non-swimmable (except for the carp).
I too, sat with trepidation after we were sent home to "slow the curve", or whatever nonsense they were spewing. This was not normal. The riots were not normal. The forced jabs were not normal. The curfews were not normal. Luckily, there were writers, scientists, journalists like yourself whose work was a lifeline of sanity. I live in DC. People are still wearing masks. When Fauci showed up with two masks people started wearing two masks. The Stepford Democrats. We've gone from summertime lemonade on the cool breezeway to Euthanasia Pods in one lifetime.
I agree with fellow poster George...."be still and know". Faith and divine love are the greatest enemies of falsehood.
Dr. Wolf, sometimes the only respite is to "be still and know..." Our greatest effort is paltry when compared to the power and the will of the Infinite which we must trust will not be thwarted.
All that you write about is how I grew up, in the East Bay, in the 50s. Every place you speak of is familiar and loved. California in the fifties was the golden age. Those of us who experienced it were blessed.
Lovely, via your writing, to meander with you through the reimagined past on your necessary break. A holiday — holyday - a mechanism that so helps balance the psyche to reacquaint oneself with everyday well intentioned people, to know ourself as also one of them and for them - regardless of understanding. And, in your meandering I too was able to rekindle the hopeful days of youth, the locations that rekindle treasured experiences and moods. Thank you for sharing so poignantly.
Beautiful piece beautifully written - thank you Naomi. Thomas Wolfe wrote You Can Never Go Home Again. It took me 50+ years arguing he was wrong only to finally see that he was indeed right. The home places we lovingly remember in our nostalgia filled moments live only in our hearts now because everything in life changes - of that you can be certain. They are tho the most precious and lovely moments and dreams!

Thank you....I am now craving a burrito from La Cumbra in the Mission 🌯🧡
❤️ My mother grew up down the street from Mickey and her family. She started La Cumbre. Miss that delicious 😋 food.
Small world. I live in Thailand now and have plans to go

A poem I've relied on since the 60's
Enjoyed this so much!

"Textbook disaster capitalism'. Geez.
Let's do something about that.

Hola comrade.
Thanks for being the voice of reason in these times of inanities.
Without an empathetic humane being of Womanly consciousness, We the People, would
Shirley and Temple bee black.
Where is the Wizard of Oz residing this week?
Looking forward.
