Apparently the holding up of red painted hands also symbolises the brutal murder of two Israeli reservists who strayed into Palestinian territory. They went to the Palestinian police station seeking refuge but we're murdered there by an irrate mob, one of whom held up bloodied hands in the window to cheers by the pro Hamas crowd outside. I saw the photo recently on other social media.
Lamentations, indeed. Having fought and fought for the ending of butchery in medicalized obstetrics for 20+ years, I came to the same sad conclusion - the fight continues, though the battlegrounds do not visibly change.
