Naomi, I gave out many copies of your book for Christmas. Everyone loves it. But I am going to have to stop reading your pieces because they always make me cry...and nothing makes me cry.

You have such a good handle on what is wrong, and even a hint that all may not be lost. I, too, remember Christmas/Hannukah just as you do...it was magic and people like us still hold that dear. I lived in a town that was 80% Catholic, 15% Jewish, and 5% everything else...and we all were the better for it. In public school we sang Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel and then O Come All Ye Faithful back to back and there was nothing but joy and purity to it all.

Getting that feeling back would be a wonderful place to start restoring what has become unremittingly ugly.

Many thanks for expressing so eloquently something that so many of us feel but have been unable to put into words like these.

About 15 years ago I was in Dubai over Christmas. Trees and decorations were everywhere in the hotel, and in the courtyard, as Arab gentlemen sipped their tea, Hark the Herald Angels Sing boomed out the speakers ‘Born is the King of Israel’ - no-one was offended.
