By conflating Zionism and Judaism Israel itself is perpetuating the myth that all Jews are responsible for the ghastly genocide that we are witnessing.
Usually Israel exterminates entire populations in private, like the 'quiet genocide' of the Mayan civilisation in Guatemala. Journalist and author Chris Hedges interviewed a lawyer who witnessed it. Israel installed a digital ID system for the death squads to identify, track and trace they Mayans, not only the resistance. They may have been after the ancient knowledge because they tortured infants to extract information from the adults.
I am a Christian Zionist. Thank you Dr. that you have an open mind to change. My family and I escaped from Communist Hungary 1956. My father hated Jewish people. Don't know if it was Hitler's influence or what but dad blamed Jewish people for every problem in the world. His hate became mine. At age 29 I came to faith in Jesus Christ and repented of many sins, including my hate and prejudice. I sensed G_d wanted me to love Jewish people not just tolerate. I had to break the generational pattern of sin, hate and prejudice in my family. My wife and I raised our kids to not hate anyone group.
There is no 2 state solution. I read a book by the former ambassador to Israel and he gives good evidence why 2 state will not work. You are a good example to everyone that you listen w/an open mind. Many have been taught what to think not how to think. They don't bother to research both sides. They repeat the ignorant words of others and their lies. There is one truth. The rest is opinion. #NEVERAGAIN Steve Bauer in Ohio-- Grateful U.S. citizen
I tried to put a Like on, but it said Something went wrong. I also am a Christian Zionist and deeply love Israel and Judaism. Most of the comments here are ugly and offensive, but I liked yours.
I write this with great respect for your work and your perspective!
I have listened repeatedly to the last seven minutes of your 10/7 audio. You comment on two eerily similar possibilities: That Netanyahu had given the IDF a stand down order on October 7, and that George Bush might have been lax and therefore responsible for 9/11.
I have truly wrestled with these two shocking possibilities as I have watched videos and listened to podcasts that present evidence of both being true. Are both leaders or their administrations calculatedly responsible for the death of their own people because they wanted to justify starting a war? I lean towards yes.
With the evidence that exists, I found myself wishing you had not brushed so quickly over either of those horrifying possibilities.
I grasp that the intended purpose in your 10/7 audio was to focus on Hamas’ ongoing and terrible atrocities against the Jews and the inhumane response that has happened when human beings rejoice over atrocities done to the people of Israel. Though I was not raised in Judaism, my father was a Hungarian Jew and some of our ancestors died in Auschwitz. I have studied our family history extensively. My comments veer off from your focus, but might be none the less important to address. My perspective is that the truth about who instigated 10/7 and 9/11 matters and should come out.
When referring to 9/11, you commented “which no one seems to care about now,” I have to disagree. The families of the 3000 Americans that were killed still care that the real reason for their loved ones deaths has not been revealed, AE911Truth.org has worked endlessly to prove the use of explosives in the buildings, the 9/11 Commission Report is being investigated, new videos have been released by TCN and facts have been recently recorded by eko.substack.com. Perhaps the 9/11 bombers were aided by our government, making the government fully responsible! That would be pure wickedness by our government. Many want desperately to know the truth.
I was thankful you at least briefly discussed both eerily similar possibilities! Perhaps, probably, throughout history, leaders have frequently killed their own people in order to start wars. I am focused on the two situations that happened during my lifetime. I hate being lied to!
May God have mercy on our world. I am thankful the vast intelligence God has given you, your journalistic honesty, and your love for truth.
Thank you, Naomi, and congratulations on your exceptionally sensitive and knowledgeable essay, so clearly based on a deep humanitarian yearning for mutual understanding and genuine, lasting peace. I appreciated your sharing of the beautiful lived memories of your younger days in Israel with many close palestinian friends.
I do have some questions however, points that I may have missed. Here they are:
• I had understood that not only the borders between the palestinian/arab areas and jewish areas were heavily policed, but that Gaza itself was experienced by its inhabitants to be heavily controlled, and subject to random attacks
by the Israel military - “Mowing the lawn“. So certainly not equipped with equal rights. What People would accept this forever?
• The fundamentalist Jewish notion, often expressed publicly, that God gave Israel to His Chosen People, and NOT to anyone of non-Jewish stock
Sorry, accidentally sent the above too soon. Continuing my second point: if Jewish Israelis feel ordained by God to be the sole occupants if Greater Israel, that has left Palestinians in an untenably precarious situation.
• It has been stated that Netanyahu and his Govt. (with his US allies?) had been bolstering the rise of Hamas as leaders in order to weaken and divide Palestinian resistance
• There were (it seems) other harassments from Netanyahu, like publicly pointing to maps of a Greater Israel with no palestinian areas
• I heard from several sources that on the fateful Oct. 7 the otherwise always heavily guarded border was left totally unguarded in unprecedented fashion, that ALL troops had been moved elsewhere, despite(?) prior knowledge of a planned invasion.
Now the clearly never-ending massacre and starvation tactics have of course roused the cry of genocide. This is surely a crime, or not?
Please understand these questions correctly. Of course Israel can’t afford stand by and let itself, its people be annihilated.
But if untenable situations are left unattended to for too long, at some point it could only lead to disaster.
Let’s hope peace can come soon, with recognition of all populations involved.
Thank you again for your insightful and valuable work, Naomi, not only on this issue.
"Israel with all its FLAWS"!! Do you mean the 1948 Nakba and the 2023-25 Genocide?! Do you mean almost eight decades of illegal occupation? The continual theft of Palestinian land and the tyrannizing of it indigenous population? Or maybe you mean the 'FLAWS' of Zionism? - The racism and elitism of its founding father Theodore Herzl. The fascist rantings of its Iron Wall strategist Ze'ev Jabotinski. Its dreams of a Greater Israel and of rebuilding the Third Temple on the site of Al Aqsa. That, my dear Ms. Wolf, is as small sample of your so called 'flaws', that is causing hundreds of people people around the world to consider Israel and its doctrine of Zionism, along with genocidal doctrines of Deuteronomy, to be the bane of humanity and the anti-thesis of human community. If this 'orgy of pure hatred of your kind' is upsetting you, then may you should find refuge in the community of non-separatist Jews, like Jeffrey Sachs, Schlomo Sand and many others. Or at least talk to the Israeli Jews of B'tsalem, the courageous Soldiers of Conscience and the Rabbis of Neturei Karta. Until then, your opinions on Israel are merely nicely phrased rhetoric in service of a colonialist and dangerously imperialist regime.
What I have put in the words below, as my response to your message from your heart of hearts, is a question of a kind that can only be "answered" by combining the mind and the heart in an attempt to take in the meaning that is intended. Thank you for listening!
Isn't one important step missing on the path toward Peace in the Middle East?
The ONE single step most needed to begin making real progress in bringing peace to the Middle East, would be for each nation (state, government, regime...) to state openly and clearly, with full commitment to their words: We (the state, government involved) commit our country and ourselves to complete freedom of religion, wherein NO religious group of any kind - whether minority or majority of the population - would be allowed ANY privileges that other groups do not have.
This is not enough, of course!!! This statement of purpose would be, MUST be, accompanied by removing the respective wording of the nation's self-description: For example, the muslim states would declare themselves NOT muslim states (or God-States, or whatever the wordings), and Israel would officially remove the wording "jewish" state. Without this change in the description of the country, any promise of upholding complete religious freedom in that society would be a clear - and dangerous - contradiction.
This sounds too simple, at first. But I am convinced that anyone who thinks this through calmly and clearly would see that it makes sense: There is no JUST society in the world (never has been and never can be) where some people are above the law and have more privileges than others. Start with religious freedom, freedom of thought and speech - for every
single human individual - and a new day will begin to show itself to all. Is it not so?
It’s interesting… and sad … to see some strange alliances forming. Maybe “alliances” is too strong a word, but it is interesting to see who is ending up on which side of the battle between God and the enemy of God. On one side, we have those who believe in Islam, along with the transgender crowd, climate activists like Greta Thunberg and friends, the U. N., liberal Jews, and many professing Christians. On the other side, we have more conservative Jews, many Israelis, many Bible-believing Christians who believe in God’s word and biblical prophecy, other people who have seen the violence and oppression that inevitably happens in Muslim countries, and others who don’t fit into any religious box, but who believe in the God of Israel and His promises to the Jewish people, including His promise of the land from the river to the river (B’reishit/Genesis 15:18)
I am a “conspiracy theorist” in general, especially when talking about the u s government, the U. N., the trilateral commission, the CFR, the WEC, free masonry, September 11, Waco, Randy Weaver, Oklahoma City, and more, but when it comes to Israel, I believe in God’s Word and that He means what he says - which is the reason I believe that it’s important not to join those who gather together against Israel. Biblical prophecy clearly says that there will come a time when all the nations will gather together against Israel. As individuals, we have to choose whether we will believe God and be on His side or whether we will join all the nations and oppose Israel.
I know which side I want to have been on when I stand before the One Who created everything that is, the One Who identifies Himself as the God of Israel.
Does this mean I agree with every single thing every Jewish person does or everything the Israeli government does? Not a chance. But I refuse to contribute to the hate against Israel or Jews.
I can’t help but wonder what would happen if the whole world would just accept what God has said and designate the land of Israel to the Jewish people. The refusal to do this is due to rebellion against God. God will punish Israel for her wrong choices, but those who fight against Israel will be destroyed. I will let God discipline His people when He chooses. In the meantime, I will show my love for God by showing love to His people Israel.
