I dont' know if Dr. Wolf is aware of this -- It is my hope some of her readers will find this interesting just as a little trivia-- Beresheet "in the beginning" - Kabbalists take a hyper-literal (at times they go hyper-metaphorical too) -- but Kabbalists, look up Daniel C. Matt translate Beresheet as "IN A BEGINNING" as opposed to the beginning leaning towards a more I wanna say Hindu like universe. They further translate the opening line of Beresheet as "IT created God" --- stressing perhaps the transcendence of God... as modern Jewish Rabbi's will say we can't say what God is only what he's not... On that note the ten attributes we can know of God are the ten circle Tree of Life. Beresheet also means six. The six circles above our own form Zeir Anpin (or the World of Formation)-- Kabbalists believe the Zohar records the travellings of the Rabbi Shimon, a second century Tannaitic sage, who wondered around with his companions = Kabbalists belive the Zohar is the soul of the bible , and that the Tikkunei Zohar is the soul of the Zohar-- The Tikkunei Zohar contains 70 different explanations/interpretations of just the first word of the Torah Beresheet--- It is the Tikkunei Zohar that Rabbi Shimon and Rabbi Elazar are believed to have writen while in cave in Meron for 13 years....

As a Believer of 43 years coming from a Christian Science background, being educated as a Believer through various protestant denominations and now at 69 years of age a member of the The Anglican Province of America Church. I relish historical discovery, and as a life long teacher by profession know we as soulful, spiritual beings have the spark of life in us. All are either ready to have that spark lite into a flame or have the continuing need to be keep it fueled and alive.
The “WE” in your first reading I believe you will discover is representative of God our Father, God our Savior and God our Enlightener. Indeed the Holy Trinity which is what the complete textual content of this amazing book, The Word of God is all about and why it continues to exist and have its content historically and scientifically revealed as truth. Anyone who believes in an Almighty God will have a desire to know what HE is all about!

About the Trinity, I understand that from a Jewish perspective this would be difficult. If you don’t accept Jesus as the Messiah, the Trinity is incomprehensible. But once you do, the evidence is throughout the Gospels, from the very words of Jesus, as well as throughout the Epistles, which were written long before there was anything approaching an organized church. The Trinity is very present in the text; only the word to describe it came later.
This was on my radar because of your interview with Eric Metaxas. As the wife of a Jewish man, having been raised Catholic, on my sea legs with Daily Bible reading, this feels like a little miracle. I’m so grateful for the stakes being high enough to finally understand. It all began standing against the experimental shot. You’re not just a literary critic, you’re a born teacher. Had not considered that the genesis of this translation was a group of dissident protest-er/protest-ants. Fits what many of us are experiencing now.

A long time ambition was to read “The Brothers Karamazov”. Just finished! I was stunned by the Grand Inquisitor chapter and even got my own copy (this time Constance Garnett whose “Evenings Near the Village of Dikanka” has some of the most beautiful passages in the English language, never mind it was translated from the Russian.)
With all the discussion of Constitutional collapse and the birthright of freedom we must secure for our sovereign selves, and posterity, Dostoevsky’s take on the “thundering miracle” of Christ’s communion with the wise spirit in the desert, to me, must have been in the hearts and minds of the Founding Fathers. Jefferson included. It’s about intent. About freedom. “Faith” is our trust that we have the tools to discern this intent. That we are indeed “meant” to be free. This discernment will not come from the Hubble telescope. Or a microscope.
I was at once captured by your post about the 1560 Bible and its relevance to the founding of our Nation. My wife already ordered the Apocrypha and I sent her the link to your recommendation for the 1560 version. I think we can navigate the spelling. My credential is an old “Tempest” in the old spelling. I was looking for the Dulac illustrated edition but a bookstore in London sent me this instead. I’ll let her research editions and select.
