I have a small quibble, however, with the idea that electronic voting machines can be verified.
If you are at all familiar with the work of Bev Harris at Black Box Voting, you will know that developers can hide code that practically nobody can find either before or after the vote.
I personally favour paper ballots, hand counted, with witnesses from all parties (called 'scrutineers' in Canada) to assure a proper count.
"Money talks, bullshit walks," as the saying goes. Explanations or silence only sustain denial and dysfunction.
