I bought “The Geneva Bible 1560, Apocrypha” and I’m very confused. The chapters don’t follow the Bible I am familiar with. I wanted to follow along by reading the texts you refer to, but nowhere do I find Exodus or even Genesis. Did I buy the wrong book?
Spoiler alert… in a few chapters, all adult Israelites over 20 will be banned from entering the Promised Land because of unbelief and will be told they will die during the additional 38 years of wandering in the wilderness until they have all died.
What happened to Egypt/Mitzraim may seem severe, but God judges Israel severely too, when they reject Him and refuse to trust in Him and accept what He says. Despite all God’s signs and promises and provision, only two men who left Egypt as adults will enter The Land - Caleb and Joshua. The point being that God was not unjust in His judgements on the Egyptians. He was not stricter or more severe with them than He was with the people He claimed for His own, through whom He chose to reveal Himself to mankind, and through whom He gave his messages.
In a question in a previous reading, someone cynically stated they would not believe in “a god” who would command genocide. I think they were referring to what God is going to command the Israelites to do to the people of Canaan when they go into the Promised Land. The fact is that at least 600,000 Israelites are about to die in the wilderness. That is an average of more than 43 deaths per day.
The Canaanites were doing horrific things, some of which are mentioned - causing their children to pass through the fire to Molech being one. They rejected God's standards of right and wrong, which they had known. He gave them time to repent, to turn back to God and turn away from their wickedness, but they didn’t.
I think the problem people have with the taking of the land is that instead of God wiping out the Canaanites, He had Israel do it. Who are we to judge how God chooses to carry out His will? He gave some reasons for doing it the way He did. There were other lands that He gave to other people groups, some of which are mentioned in the Bible, and they had to displace the previous inhabitants. We have far more details of what happened in Israel, but similar situations were going on in other places.
Thank you, Naomi, for sharing this powerful story of God bringing his people out of Egypt. I loved your perspective of "the people recognizing and falling in love with God" and "God falling in love--revealing itself--to the people." It was under very harsh conditions that God chose to reveal itself. The people had to come to know and trust this new power in their lives, basically because they had no choice. Their lives were in the hand of God now. I would say that we are also in a similar situation. Nothing in our past can prepare us for the future that is unfolding now except trust in the Divine Power that is moving in us now. The children of Israel had to take action. They complained many times that they would have done better to stay in Egypt and they made many mistakes--but they did stay the course and continue and their relationship with God grew. And trust in God grew. And I think we are called to trust in the Deeper Intelligence of God--our inner knowing--and follow this knowing into a future that is unknown to us (as it was to the Children of Israel then). We have lost our deep connection to God. It is time to reclaim it. Our future and that of all humanity relies on this Pillar of Light and Fire within.

He will set his feet on the Mount of Olives ( Zechariah 14) and Jerusalem will split in two and the dead sea will become the living water .
Before he puts his feet on Mount of Olives, all the tribes will look upon him who they pierced and weep as one weeps for an only begotten Son. He came in the flesh up close and personal, and laid down his life willingly to give all of us life. Greater love than that can not be found, but one that would give his life to redeem us from a fallen world . Before the foundation of the world, he knew that he would do that for us and created us anyway. Wow!
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Looking forward to celebrating the feast of Sukkot when all the nations will come up to Jerusalem. The beginning of that last chapter of Zechariah sadly sounds like October 7 ( not saying it is ), there are beautiful things to look forward to and our redemption, the redemption of kol Israel and all the nations who worship the God of Israel cannot be too far off. So, its true. That came from the bible. Recently I was listening to a pod cast, in which Bret Weinstein talked about our current political situation. It was a pretty grim analysis. Still I always think something is missing from an almost completely materialistic analysis. People are more than that, at least some are.
You do know the real, actual, original Bible that was in Latin in the early Church has been translated in to literally every language on earth... right? The Douay Rheims being almost as old as the fake Bible she is using being among the most accurate. Besides, being smart, as a doctor of poetry....why can't she learn Latin? I did, on my own.
The Bible was written in Hebrew (Tanach) and Greek (most of the Messianic Writings, except maybe Matthias/Matthew was also written in Hebrew). None of the Bible was originally written in Latin, and the translators into Latin made some major errors which have obscured the truth ever since and negatively influenced translations into other languages.
If you read the writings of the early Church fathers on the Bible, you will find that is not actually true. There was quite a bit of discussion and by the time the one, holy Catholic and apostolic Church... the only authority on earth given the role by God to compile, write and publish the Bible approved the official Biblia Sacra, it was the true Word of God. I have compared the Latin to the Douay Rheims side by side and found them dearly identical. But, I prefer the Douay Rheims because it is easier to read my native language and it has excellent explanatory notes. The KJV and other Protestant Bibles are altered and incomplete. Martin Luther admitted as much when he said he had purposefully changed the words of Jesus to fit his doctrine and sited himself as his soul authority. If you want to know what the Bible truly means, you need a real Bible and the writings of the early Church that explained all aspects of Christian doctrine and belief. Start with the Didache, which predates several books of the New Testament and was the teaching of the 12, the holy Apostles to whom God gave all authority on earth.... which He did not give to Luther. Besides, the Geneva Bible is essentially the first draft of the KJV, and the KJV has been revised and corrected more than 1,2000 times since it was published. If the KJV is superior to the Geneva and it is so incredibly flawed, why not use the Bible all Christians accepted for 1,300 years or so before that, when it was read aloud at Mass daily by the very authors of the New Testament themselves and those who learned directly from them, such as Pope Saint Clement who was ordained by Saint Peter or Saint Ignatius who was a student of Saint Paul?

There are no testaments in the Bible. Not an old one, not a new one. That is a mistranslation from the Greek into Latin, which was carried over into other languages including English. The word is brit (Hebrew), translated in the Septuagint as diatheke (Greek), and incorrectly translated into Latin as testamentum, which error was then perpetuated in many other languages. The most correct English word would be covenant. The new covenant is found in Tanach, in Jeremiah 31:31-34
To have a continuous, seamless revelation, many words mistranslated into English from the Jewish Greek writings (via Latin) need to be corrected. What was prophesied in Tanach was a Messiah, so it is a Messiah that will fulfill those prophesies, not an appropriated Greek word that is then transliterated into English. (More on this below.)
There is no “church” in the Messianic Writings. There is no word that the Greeks or Hebrews had that could be translated as “church.” From the Septuagint translation, we can find how to translate many words in the Messianic Writings (incorrectly designated as the “New Testament”). The Hebrew words “kahal” and “edah” were translated into Greek as “sunagoge” and “ekklesia.” The Greeks knew nothing of “church.” Yeshua did not start something different. He did not start “the church.” He brought to fullness what was prophesied. A continuation, a fulfillment, of Tanach.
The Greek word “christos” meant smeared with oil, like a leather shield being smeared with oil to keep it supple. In the Septuagint, the word was appropriated to describe “anointed.” The Greeks had no word for Messiah and no concept for being anointed, so the translators chose a word that had some connection to what they were trying to describe and represent. The word they selected stood in to represent the Hebrew biblical concept the best they could find in a language and culture that had no such idea. The Greek word was not intended to replace the original word or concept. Ideally, translators would go to the original, true word and translate from that, rather than re-translating from a language that didn’t truly represent the original. In other words, knowing that “christos” stood for “messiah” or “anointed one,” those translating into other languages should have translated from the original Hebrew/Jewish reality instead of transliterating a Greek word that had no inherent meaning.
There is also no word “Christian” in the Messianic Writings. The use of the Greek word “christos” to represent Messiah/anointed one was confusing to Greek speakers. The Greeks, trying to make sense of this word began calling the followers of Messiah, “chrestians,” thinking they must be followers of some man named Chrestus - a name they were familiar with. This is the conclusion that even Christian biblical scholars have come to. The word found 3 times in the Messianic Writings should be “chrestians.” It was a slur, and not something the followers of Yeshua called themselves. They were talmidim/learners/followers/disciples.
I highly recommend two books: The Separation of Church and Faith: Copernicus and the Jews (showing how Christianity deviates from the Scriptures) and Rabbi Akiba’s Messiah (showing how rabbinic Judaism deviates from the Scriptures), both by Daniel Gruber.

The term “heavenly host” refers to messengers/malakhim/“angels.” The word “hosts” does not exclusively refer to a heavenly host.

Why do you not use a real, accurate Bible such as the one all Christians used before the 1500s... translated by Saint Jerome in the 300s?
Possibly because Jerome translated the bible into Latin? And Dr Wolf reads Hebrew and Old English, that is my understanding. Just my guess.
